We are back from our trip to the other hemisphere. We went to Rarotonga, the capital island of the Cook Islands. Matt and Katie went with us and we meet up with some high school friends of Nathan, Brett Meyer and Aaron Anderson. What a paradise it is. The most beautiful place I've ever been. There are 9,000 residents and tourists more than double the population. It is owned by New Zealand so they use the New Zealand dollar that is about .75 of our dollar value. But everything was expensive. The typical entree at a restaurant was $25. And the grocery store was no cheaper. We had a kitchen at the house so we ended up making most of our meals.
They reason we don't have photos is because my camera was doing funky things and would not focus. I used Aaron's girlfriend, Kelly's, camera. But Aaron and Kelly are out there for another week so I will post those later.
The guys got good surf the first couple days. The waves were real heavy. There are only 3 guys on the island that surf and few people fly in to surf because the waves are pretty crazy. "Nothing like I've ever surfed in my life", Nathan said.
The water and the marine life were amazing... turtles, bright blue star fish, sharks!, and various colorful fish and urchins. I read a few books, got a facial, rode scooters around the island, swam to another island, and had plenty of time to lay around on the beautiful beaches. What a great trip!
Thanks Nana and Grammy for watching our little guys!
