Miles is home!

So last Friday night Nate and I were talking about our weekend and realized we didn't have a single thing planned... how nice. So we decided we were going to go down to Trestles and meet our friends Michael, Ginny and Jack for a little surfing and fun in the sand on Saturday morning. Little did we know that our whole weekend was going to be so eventful.
So on the way down the trail to the beach we asked the boys to walk on the dirt next to the paved walkway because there was a bike race (or so it seemed... lots of bikers). Gavin walked right past a baby rattle snake and didn't see it but Miles did. So Miles thought he could pick it up since it looked like any other plastic snake we have had around the house. I didn't see him do this until he screamed and said that it bit him. A passer-by quickly identified it as a baby rattler and we rushed him up the trail dialing 911.
Well, this story could be long if I kept telling all the details so now I'll be brief.
He was able to get the anti-venom quick enough (but at the time I didn't think it was fast enough... 4 IV attempts). We went from the ER to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and there we stayed until yesterday afternoon. His hand and forearm swelled up, he was lethargic for a few hours, he had tiny muscle twitching around his mouth and his hand... and that was about it. They gave him 7 rounds of anti-venom 6 hours apart with blood draws in between. He stayed in the PICU the whole time because of the constant monitoring of the swelling and the possible life-threatening complications of the venom (which he had none).
What an ordeal! The snake was a tiny thing (but I guess the babies are the worst).

it looks worse than it really was

Miles loved going to the toy room in the wagon and enjoyed all his visitors

Big brother made it more fun being cooped up in the hospital.

A day after coming home from the PICU he was ready for his first day of preschool.
